1st place at Westbeach Aberdeen

Saturday 18th September 2010 Friday evening found BeXx again in the car this time travelling up to Glasgow. Friday night was spent in a hotel near Glasgow airport, and the following morning was another early start. The competition on Saturday was the Westbeach Snowflex Series at the Aberdeen Snowsports Centre and started at 10.00 am. After the 3 hour car journey from Glasgow to aberdeen BeXx was heard to say "thank you Nintendo for inventing the DS". BeXx's first impression on seeing the slope at Aberdeen was how big the kicker looked. She was soon distracted by all the amazing graffiti around the kicker and other features. The slope sweeps smoothly down to the large kicker, and has a series of features built into to it on one side, including a very tall wall ride. Then on downwards to the massive quarter pipe that is the width of most of the bottom of the slope. This was one very cool looking slope!
The last Westbeach competition at Halifax had been centered around the kicker, with a rail jam included with spot prizes being handed out. Bexx was dissapointed to find out that the rail jam part of this event was instead to be held on the massive quarter pipe. Bexx had never hit a quarter pipe before, but she shrugged her shoulders and said "Oh well something new to try". Before to long she had met two local girls Natalie Riley and Lara Wood and was being given advice and made to feel very welcome by them. With a couple of test runs on the kicker out of the way, BeXx was soon feeling comfortable to start trying out her spins. The relaxed and fun nature of the Westbeach events soon brought out the best in her, and she was even growing in confidence on the quarter pipe. The spot prizes were handed out as riders showed off their skills on the quarter pipe, and BeXx was really enjoying trying out new things on this feature. Then the real competition started on the main kicker. Plenty of good riding was too be had as BeXx battled through qualification and into the finals. Both Lara and BeXx were in the under 16's category and were soon trading off spins over the kicker. After all the riding and judging was done, we all gavered at the back of the quarter pipe to hear the results. I was amazed to be awarded first place in the under 16's as I thought that Lara had rode extremely well. I won another fantastic haul of goodies and was feeling really stoked. | |
