2nd Place at Westbeach Snowflex Series - Halifax

Saturday 21st August 2010 Well BeXx was in the car early, for another road trip and another competition. This time the journey was to Halifax and the competition was the Westbeach Snowflex Series 2010. This was held at the Halifax Ski and Snowboard Centre dryslope. On route we collected BeXx friend Lucy Prior (age 13), BeXx met Lucy at the British Championships in Laxx in Switzerland, and had recently ridden together in the Burton Camps held at Tamworth Snowdome. Today they would be competing against each over in the under 16's category.
Arriving early at Halifax both girls had some time to relax from the car journey and gradually the other competitors began to arrive. Soon another friend of BeXx's Jules Chappel arrived. Jules has always been a mentor to BeXx ever since BeXx first started to snowboard. She has been a constant source of support and advice to BeXx, and a fun person to be around. At 10 am the slope opened for practice time and all the competitors headed out for the first runs. The first part of the competition was a rail jam session based on a flat box and a gnarly side hit gas pipe. The jam session consisted of a number of handout prizes for ever progressive tricks. BeXx came away with a handful of tee shirts and Beanies, and was the only girl to hit and style out the side hit gas pipe. The competition then moved onto the mail event and this was held around the famous Halifax kicker. All the girls made it through qualification and into the Semi Finals. But only Lucy, Faye Younge and BeXx made it through into the finals. It was an amazing fun and very close competition. Lucy took a nasty slam off the kicker at one point, and was going for huge method grabs. BeXx was pulling all different grabs from indies to methods to nose grabs. But was having trouble with her spins in the windy conditions. After trading tricks and battling the wind the three girls in the under 16's final had finished all their runs. Everyone then gathered at the bottom of the slope to hear the final results. BeXx was very excited to claim 2nd place in the under 16's especially as she was the youngest girl in the competition. She walked away with an armful of prizes, including a very cool pair of Skull Candy headphones. Lucy was also really pleased to be awarded, best unsponsered rider, and also took the prize of a new Bern helmet for worst slam of the day. The final result: 1. Faye Young 2. Becky Menday 3. Lucy Prior
