Becky Menday:

A girl snowboarder only 12 years old, who has a passion for freestyle snowboarding and has proved to have a talent in this area.

She has shown herself to be the equal of girls much older than herself in the UK, European and even the World competition circuit. Becky has reached 2nd place in the UK Women's TTR Rankings and has reached 55th Woman in the World TTR rankings. She is also a member of the GB Junior Freestyle Team

Becky lives in a small village in Buckinghamshire, England. She has until recently ridden and trained exclusively in the indoor snow slope at Sno!Zone in Milton Keynes.

Freestyle snowboarding consists of different disciplines, Becky excels in slopestyle and big air and has had excellent results in the Olympic disciplines of Boarder cross (also known as SBX) and half pipe. She is determined to hopefully represent her country in an upcoming winter Olympics. With slopestyle now also being considered for inclusion in the 2014 winter Olympics in Russia, and her status as 'Elite Junior' within the GB Freestyle Team the possibility of this happening, is becoming ever closer.

History:

Becky has been snowboarding for about four years and freestyling for the last three. After dipping her toe into the UK competition scene in 2008 for a single a single event on the British Snow Tour Championships, she discovered her enjoyment for the competitive side of snowboarding. She launched herself into the full series of competitions in the British Championships all over the UK in 2009. And despite breaking her wrist in the second event of the Championships managed to win several silver medals.

At the start of 2010 Becky set her sights on her first International competition and was picked as one of only 13 girls to ride at the prestigious Burton European Open in Switzerland. Competing against girls from across Europe and the USA she placed a respectable 7th place in qualifying. But an ankle injury in the final caused her to slip back to 10th place. This was still a good result for her first ever mountain competition and only having two weeks of previous mountain riding experience.

With the new season of competitions starting again in October 2010 Becky was determined to do well in both the British Championships and European competitions.

Her season started very well taking several gold medals and finishing as 2nd place woman overall in the indoor and artificial slope British Snow Tour Championships.

The start of 2011 has also seen some amazing results; first taking a 3rd place podium finish in the Burton European Open in Switzerland; and a 4th place in the Protest World Rookie Fest in Italy in January.

Sno!Zone:

In 2009, recognising her potential after her basic lessons and early freestyle introduction sessions, Becky was invited to become a 'Development Rider' for Sno!Zone. This alowed her free access to the slope at Milton Keynes for the Thursday night 'Freestyle Academy' sessions and for the Sunday morning youth 'Breakfast Club' sessions. Sno!Zone and her coaches were so impressed by her commitment and developement as well as her loyalty and support for the brand that they offered her a full sponsorship in January 2010. This provides her with free riding at any of the three Sno!Zone indoor sites in the UK.

At the end of the British Snow Tour Champioships in November 2010; Becky was signed up to the Protest Boardwear UK Team, alongside the 2010 UK Olympian Ben Kilner. Protest provide her with all her technical outer wear, and also clothing for apres wear. Becky loves the quality and design of both the technical and street wear that Protest produce and as a company they have proved to be a very supportive and encouraging sponsor.

Protest also sponsor many snowboarding competitions in both Europe and the UK, including the British Snow Tour slopestyle and the World Rookie Fest Series.

Head Snowboards:

Impressed by Becky's good European results this year and her determination to progress further, Head Snowboards in February 2011, signed her to their UK Team. They hope to progress her to their full European team in January 2012.

Head provide Becky with her snowboard, bindings, boots and helmet. With the inclusion of the European Head Protection division Becky will also recieve all her body armour and impact shorts as well. With an inclusion of an incentive bonus within Becky's contract, this is an amazing opurtunity for her.

Dan Wakeham the Head Snowboards Team manager is also the GB Junior Freestyle Team head coach, and his support will provide Becky with more oppurtunities for her to reach her Olympic dreams.

	Boarders Boards: This is a small friendly snowboard and skateboard shop in Northamptonshire. They have supported and encouraged Becky from her early days of snowboarding. They are also responsible for connecting Becky with the other sponsors listed below. Becky knows if she has a problem at any time she can turn to Boarders Boards and they will go out of their way to sort it out for her. Becky is also a member of the Boarders Boards Snowboard Team.
	Clast Neckwear: After having been supplied with Clast bandanas as part of the Boarders Boards Team, Becky was invited in January 2011 to become a member of the Clast Junior Team. This provides her with cool bandanas and snoods to protect her face and neck from the elements on the mountain.

Becky and the Media:

Becky has attracted a lot of positive media attention over the last two years. She has given interviews on local radio both recorded and live, in the studio and over the phone.

In the summer of 2010 Becky appeared on national television in the CITV programme called 'Skillicious'. This is a childrens TV programme aimed at showcasing various children and their skills and sports. Becky had a whole 5 1/2 minute article all about her and her snowboarding.
